Core Mobile Apps

Design, research, strategy, and delivery leadership on all core team apps including:

Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Raptors
Toronto Football Club
Toronto Argonauts

Work across all business areas at MLSE to deliver exceptional digital fan service to fans worldwide.

Focus on scaling cross-functional partnership opportunities inside MLSE's business but outside our Digital Lab, which has empowered our friends in other departments who love using app to get their messages and services out to fans.

Scotiabank Arena App

I wonder what will end up in this section!

Digital Arena / Game Chat

The Toronto Raptors have ~15M fans worldwide; less than 1% of those fans will have the chance to attend a game in the arena.

The aim of this project is to connect fans from around the world to the atmosphere of excitement at Scotiabank Arena and while our teams are on the road. On this team I led product design, generating ideas and working with product and engineering to deliver innovating and exciting features to fans.

The product was branded GameTime (MatchTime for football) and hosted inside the Leafs, Raptors, and TFC apps. Features included live chat, interactive trivia and arcade games, leaderboards, prizing, and game-over-game community building with other fans who became connected over the shared space this product enabled.

NHL App

After leading design efforts over a multi-day pitch at Apple Park in Cupertino, I worked in a small and mighty lab team at MLSE to help the NHL deliver a completely new codebase, design system, and user experience for their app in 6 (!) months.

Collaborating and iterating cross-functionally with developers from MLSE and NHL, I led design efforts on:
- Scores, our most viewed tab with as many as 25 million views a night
- Gamecenter, our pre, live, and post-game data experiences that make up the other major chunk of usage throughout the season

I was also individually responsible for:
- Design system management
- Mobile component library in Figma
- Ideations on big-picture, future-state exploration of how the NHL can best take advantage of Apple's platforms

Volunteer Design Mentorship

Coaching and mentorship for children and young adults at community-based hackathons for the Leafs and Raptors, including a special NHL All-Star House of Hockey event.

The focus of these events is to involve diverse young adults in the communities we call home, creating opportunities to be creative and learn about careers in design, technology, sports, and entertainment.

Ontario Digital Service (ODS)

Senior Product Designer, Prototyping Lab
2020-2022

Verify App

Ontario's first and only government-issued app on the App Store; winner of the Amethyst Award, the highest honour given to public servants for their work.

Lead interface designer responsible for all prototypes and visual artifacts. Delivered the look, feel, and functions of the app across iOS, iPadOS and Android.

Digital Identity Program

Contributions to a long-running program in the government to research and identify use cases for a government-issued Digital Identity. Research, ideation, and prototyping on ways people in Ontario might choose to use digitally-issued forms of ID to interact with businesses and other institutions using verifiable credentials.

Digital First Assessment Panel

When Ministries and teams within government want to go live with a new or improved digital product, a panel of subject matter experts evaluates important pillars of their service delivery approach, methodology and outcomes.

New projects must meet Ontario's Digital Service Standard.

As a panelist I evaluated yet-to-be-released services for their usability, user friendliness, and the delivery team's focus on problems users of the service would face.

Often, we'd deliver recommendations to improve the service or move forward with explorations on a team's most hard-to-solve challenges.

Prototyping Lab

Hosted 100s of usability tests with citizens to evaluate ideas and services across areas of government.

Worked with Ministry partners, developers, and project teams to prototype, evaluate, and ship improvements to service offerings.

Projects include:
- Designing the interface for chat support on Ontario.ca
- Supporting Ontario's small businesses by streamlining a registration process
- Understanding the needs of low-income users who submit e-signatures

Wilfrid Laurier University

Honours Bachelor of Design, User Experience Design (Minor in Philosophy)
2016-2021

Editor-in-Chief, The Carnegie

Designed and executed a 3 year strategic plan to create a sustainable yearbook print publication as part of the portfolio of Wilfrid Laurier University's Student Publications.

Spearheaded investment in staff, equipment, training, and creative output while providing pipelines for students in journalism, digital media, and user experience design programs.

In these opportunities, peers practice practical skills via tools like Illustrator and InDesign while creating a physical artifact printed to make memories for fellow students.

Successfully built 2 great yearbook teams and published 2 great books while setting an example of what can be done with investment in student-led media arts projects.

Digital Production and Outreach Coordinator, Athletics

Created assets and standards for Wilfrid Laurier Athletics official social channels, including regular series like Athlete of the Week, with professional-level execution and focus on highlighting student athletes.

Worked with other leaders, students, and departments at Laurier to build awareness of strategies that work on social media. Worked to contribute to other initiatives like standardized athletic headshots, which were re-purposed for cross-functional resource management with the yearbook project.

Great times playing volleyball for the school. I had the honour of receiving the Golden Hawk of the Year award for my work with the Athletics department and contributions to student athletics with the collegiate level volleyball team.

In my last year, I even took on coaching duties for our volleyball team!

Residence Life Don (R.A.)

Work with students from a diverse set of backgrounds, countries, education and maturity levels to build a community around a specialized learning floor at Wilfrid Laurier. Our specialization was a room of game design and development students.

Worked with other student leaders to set good examples for students while handling conflict situations in appopriate ways that help teach valuable lessons. Facilitated community building events to increase morale and help boost student mental health throughout the year.

Volunteer Design Mentorship

Facilitated panels, teaching assistance, volunteer mentorship, task-driven feedback sessions, and educational programming for students as young as Grade 8 to post-secondary students.

I contribute my voice and ears to Laurier's user experience design program as requested and focus on protecting space to think deeply about the root of problems, and allowing ideas the space to reach their full potential. I love nerding-out about art and design with students.

Other Roles

UltuCup

Designed and launched a re-design of a website selling menstrual cups. A product category like that required special attention to detail and a lens on education for users who were coming to understand the product for the first time.

We re-built the site completely to be mobile friendly and improved Google PageSpeed score from 32 to 98, while improving sales conversions and refreshing the brand. We took the site from sort-of responsible to mobile-first, which boosted traffic from social media impressions generated by the marketing team.

Concourse

Designed a software platform for college and university recruiters to connect with high school guidance councillors around the world.

The goal of the platform was to connect students with best-fit opportunities for them to study abroad, while making it easier for councillors to provide students with options that are good opportunities for them to build successful careers.

I provided handoff documentation for developers to build the first version of the view that guidance councillors would be using to parse their students data inputs and match them to hand-picked programs.
